As of May 15, 2014, I am honored to be appointed Chair of the PBA Civil and Equal Rights Committee [CERC]. December 2, 2014, I was elected President of the Western District of PA Chapter of the Federal Bar Association. December 3, 2014, I was inducted as a Fellow into the 1911Society at Duquesne U. Law. I had been nominated and elected a Fellow of the American Bar Foundation in the fall and then also was sworn into the federal Middle District of PA. I continue as a Western PA Trial Lawyer Presidents’ Club member. 2014 has been good to me.
My other memberships include ABA, FBA, PBA, ACBA and WBA. I continue to serve also as a CERC Liaison to the Minority Bar Committee.
After observing what I considered a tremendous abuse of power exercised primarily against those who differ in terms of their race, ethnicity, sexual orientation or religious creed, I have turned to a Civil Rights focus, inclusive of Exceptional Children Education Rights. While I now handle primarily Prisoners’ Rights, I have also addressed First and Fourth Amendment violations against police and municipal defendants. I have filed Civil Rights cases both in federal and state courts, handling appellate work in both arenas.
In September of 2013, I attended NITA, ultimately trying the case for a hypothetical plaintiff before a real jury to win a hypothetical Plaintiff’s verdict of $ 6.2 X 10 6 … and NITA’s Certificate. While then at NITA’s Minnesota campus, I also won the “Best Story Teller” prize which I cannot yet define as a certain good thing!
